While travelling through Slovenia, I love to look for agricultural structures called Kozolec. These are traditional hayracks which are typical for this part of Europe. They are not only utilitarian but also known for artsy adornments.
Open-air museum Rogatec
I came across the depicted hayrack while visiting the open-air museum in Rogatec (Muzej na prostem Rogatec). The museum presents the folk architectural heritage and cultural traditions of the Obsotelje region. The displayed buildings are from a period between the 18th and 20th centuries.
The Land of Hayracks
If you love to see more of these hayracks, you should pay a visit to the Land of Hayracks (Dežela kozolcev). This is an open-air museum in the municipality of Šentrupert. It displays 19 different drying structures, mainly originating from the Mirna Valley. The oldest one dates back to 1795.
