Červená Lhota Castle (Zámek Červená Lhota) in Pluhův Žďár in southern Bohemia is a Renaissance castle on a rock in the middle of an artificial pond. His former German name was Rothlhotta. [German]
Cervena Lhota Castle
The moated castle stands out due to two details. For one, it stands on a rock in a pond. It wasn’t always a moated castle. Only the damming of a stream led to its location on an island.
The other feature is its red color. It looks like a Ferrari among ordinary automobiles. The red painting produces a second effect. The painted walls clearly distinguish them from the natural rock.
Set for fairy tale movies
The castle was a set for two fairy tale movies. The first one – a Russian fantasy movie based on the tale “The Princess on a Pea” – was taken in 1977. The second one tells about the connection between luck and willingness to help. It origins from a Belarussian tale named “The Flower of Luck”.
