In the city of Cologne (Köln), you still see remains of a former Roman fort. During ancient times, the castrum Divitia guarded a bridge crossing the Rhine. Today, the ruins are part of the World Heritage Site “The Lower German Limes”.
Roman bridge of Cologne
During Roman times Castrum Divitia guarded a Rhine bridge connecting the Germanic side of the river with the Roman town Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium. This bridge was made of stone and oak beams. The Roman Germanic Museum exhibits remains of these oak beams.

Besides others, you still see the base of two towers of the Castrum Divitia. Several markings in the soil indicate the positions of further towers. A model next to the Rhine displays the layout of the Roman camp.
Remains of a railway turntable
Near an equestrian statue, you will also find a round structure which should not be misunderstood as a Roman ruin. It is the abandoned base of a turntable used by the Bergisch-Markisch Railway Company.
Förderverein Historischer Park Deutz e.V.
The local association FHPD takes care of a historical park that features all remains. Besides the Roman findings and the remains of the historic railway, you will also find a former monastery and a medieval crypt in this area.
