Sigmundskron Castle near Bolzano
Photo of Sigmundskron Castle taken on a train trip from Bolzano to Meran. It saw its first mention as Formicaria in 945. Around 1473, Duke Sigmund the Wealthy converted it into a fortress and changed its name to Sigmundskron. Today, it houses a part of the Messner Mountain Museum.
Fort Franzensfeste in Fortezza
On a local train from the Brenner Pass to Bolzano, I passed the former Austrian fort Franzensfeste (Forte di Fortezza). Its name originates from the Austrian Emperor Franz I. The fortress saw its completion in the first half of the 19th century.
Me in Liechtenstein
It was Dec 18th when I spent a few minutes in Liechtenstein. The first info about entering Liechtenstein I got from the monitors of my Austrian Railjet.
Mural in Hohenems
While passing the railway station of Hohenems with an Austrian commuter train I took this photo of a mural with historical background. It refers to the fact that parts of the ‘Song of the Nibelungs’ (Nibelungenlied) has been found in Hohenems.
Landwasser Viaduct at the Albula Railway
Pic of my train taken while sitting in the last coach. The train is just passing the famous Landwasser Viaduct of the Albula Railway, a world heritage site in Switzerland. In this huge scenery my train looks like a tiny object of a model railway layout, doesn’t it?

View through a panorama window of the Albula Railway in Switzerland. This railway links Thusis with the spa resort of St Moritz in Engadine . The large windows offered a great view of the Landscapes. Some places I even saw three times as there are some loops on the way.
Customs declaration at Swiss railway station
Strange! At the Swiss railway station St Margrethen one have to make its customs declaration by signing a form and putting it into this box. One will get a bill later to the mentioned address.
Grimming Mountain on Austrian Train TV
On a train journey through Styria (Austria) I took this photo of a mountain called Grimming. I love to call views through the window at the opposite side ‘Train TV’. It’s a bit like looking at a flat screen, isn’t it?
Steam locomotive JŽ 25-002 in Celje
At the railway station of Celje I saw the second steam locomotive on my trip through Slovenia. The locomotive now numbered JŽ 25-002 was built in the Austrian city Wiener Neustadt in 1922. In the background one can see the old castle of Celje.
