There is a funny habit I have: Every time I come across a train schedule at a railway station I have a look at this piece of paper like a gourmet reading a menu. And than I make some notes which destinations could be reached from this railway station and which ones I’d like to see next.

Steam locomotive JŽ 25-002 in Celje
At the railway station of Celje I saw the second steam locomotive on my trip through Slovenia. The locomotive now numbered JŽ 25-002 was built in the Austrian city Wiener Neustadt in 1922. In the background one can see the old castle of Celje.
Steam locomotive JŽ 151-001
This steam locomotive pedestalled in front of the railway station of Maribor, was built in Wiener Neustadt (Austria) in 1903. In the beginning, the locomotive served on the Rohitsch Local Railway.

I was surprised how many Slovenian trains were painted like this one. It reminded me on street art but for obviously reason I’d call this train art.
Tilting Train SŽ Series 310
This tilting train runs as SŽ series 310 for the Slovenian Railways (Slovenske železnice). It saw its construction by FIAT Ferroviaria and is a derivation of their ETR 460. The photo shows the train on a track in Maribor Central Station.
Steam locomotive 52.7046 in Selzthal
This steam locomotive located at the railway station of the Styrian place Selzthal is a so called Kriegslokomotive (war locomotive) built in 1943. Whereas this model is a museum exhibit only, there is also a locomotive of the same class (DRB Class 52) which is still operating for classic train tours: Steam locomotive 52.1227

Today I came across a train that transported railway switches. It was interesting to see what kind of specialized carriages are used for this extra-wide cargo.
VT 10 of the GKB Railways
Memories! Sometimes I come across these red railbuses of the GKB Railways in Styria. When I was a child, I used to take these trains to see my grandmother. Actually they were the first trains I ever took.
ÖBB 4010 at Radstadt railway station
On my way back from Radstadt I took a train of the type ÖBB 4010 the last time. For about 20 years I used to travel with this train all over Austria. Sometimes working or reading, sometimes just sleeping. It was one of those old-fashioned trains where one could use two turned down seats as bed.
