If you look at the sculptures decorating the courtyard of Schallaburg Castle (Schloss Schallaburg), you may discover the “Hundefräulein“. This is the bust of a lady whose head looks like the head of a dog.

The Austrian city of Steyr offers several colourful frescos. You’ll find this one at the lower gate of Lamberg Castle. It shows Emperor Frederick III and his son Maximilian. Whereas the gate dates back to the Middle Ages, the fresco is from 1949.

On my way to Ritzen Castle (Schloss Ritzen) in Saalfelden, I came across this lovely lake named Ritzensee. It is an artificial lake built in a former moor landscape. At the castle, I visited the local history museum.

A main attraction of the Austrian city of Schärding is the “Silberzeile“. It is a row of coloured houses in the style of the late Baroque period. In earlier times, each colour symbolised a particular guild.
Beethovenhaus in Baden bei Wien
Ludwig van Beethoven stayed in Baden bei Wien several times. For example, he composed parts of his famous 9th symphony in this house. Today, this building accommodates a museum with the name Beethovenhaus Baden.
Station Sign ‘SÜDBAHNHOF’
The railway station Südbahnhof closed in 2009 forever. Later, I saw the letters placed above the entrance of the Wien Museum. I wonder how many visitors realised the museum was labelled like a railway station.
