Donaustauf Castle (Burgruine Donauaustauf) is a castle ruin near the Danube River in the Bavarian region of Upper Palatinate (Oberpfalz). From the ruins, you have a good view of the nearby Walhalla memorial. In the photo above, one can see the columns of the former castle chapel.
It is pretty old: The Chiemsee Railway (Chiemseebahn) dates back to 1887. Though this railway doesn’t exactly meet the definition of a tramway, it is considered the oldest still operating steam tramway in the world.
At the Grassi Museum in Leipzig, visitors find material about art and designs, foreign peoples and cultures, and musical instruments. The museum complex consists of an Applied Arts Museum, an Ethnography Museum, and a Museum of Musical Instruments.
While waiting for the delayed train to Hanau I realized that the exact delay of a train is a matter of language.
After a short walk through the snowy Leipzig, I had a cup of coffee at Kaffeehaus Riquet. The café was built in 1908/1909 by Paul Lange. It offers a very stylish interior.
Benrath Palace (Schloss Benrath) saw its construction between 1755 and 1773. The number of floors differs between the outside and the courtyard side. The servants’ rooms on the inside are lower than the staterooms on the outside.
On my way to the Bavarian State Archaeological Collection I came across this fascinating storefront of a Munich hotel.
The Völklingen Ironworks (Völklinger Hütte) is a World Heritage Site and part of the European Route of Industrial Heritage. Today it houses the Ferrodrom, an interactive science centre focusing on the making of iron. I took this photo from a platform of the nearby railway station of Völklingen.
This German midget submarine of the type ‘Biber’ (1944) stands in the open-air area of the Technik Museum in Speyer, Germany.
During my visit to Nuremberg, locals told me there was a guy with a gondola licence. After some hours watching the river in the middle of the city, I was able to catch him in a photo. The building in the background is named Heilig-Geist-Spital. It served as a home for old and sick people in earlier times.
