The tobacconist’s in Vienna is called ‘Trafik’. There are lots of them spread all over the city. A blue Trafik is not that usual though.

Installation ‘Warten auf Vögel IV’ in Vienna
This installation created by the artist Josef Bernhardt is called ‘Warten auf Vögel IV’ (‘Waiting for Birds IV’). It is part of the project ‘Kunst im Öffentlichen Raum’ (Art in Public Spaces) in Vienna.
Haus Wittgenstein in Vienna
Haus Wittgenstein, situated on the Kundmanngasse, was designed by architect Paul Engelmann and philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein. Originally it was the home of Ludwig’s sister Margaret Stonborough-Wittgenstein. Today it houses the cultural department of the Bulgarian Embassy.
Karl-Borromäus-Brunnen in Vienna
The fountain is situated at the Karl-Borromäus-Platz (3. district) and was designed by Josef Engelhart in 1909. It is named after Karl Borromäus, cardinal archbishop of Milan (1538-1584).
Botanical Garden in Vienna
Next to the Belvedere Gardens, there is another garden worth a visit: The botanical garden of the University of Vienna. It offers a variety of plants combined with informative descriptions. In the photo, you see Upper Belvedere Palace in the background.
Mosaic of Leopold the Glorious
This mosaic on the Karolinengasse 31 (4. District, Wieden) shows Leopold der Glorreiche (Leopold the Glorious). He ruled as Duke of Austria from 1198 to 1230. This mosaic in Wieden reminds us that the district name was first mentioned in a deed of donation by Leopold (‘Vulgariter widem dicitur…’) in 1211.
Sculpture ‘Points of View’ in Vienna
The sculpture ‘Points of View’ by Tony Cragg stands in the Schaumburgergasse (4. District). I came across this work only a few days after I saw a similar one in Stuttgart.
Palais Schönburg in Vienna

Renzhof in Vienna
The Renzhof is a block of council flats situated in the second district of Vienna named Leopoldstadt. It stands on the site where Circus Renz used to perform in the years 1854-1897. You find the mural on one of its walls. The pictures remind me of the history of that place.
Restaurant “Der Kuckuck” in Vienna
The traditional restaurant “Der Kuckuck” uses a cuckoo as its inn sign. I took this photo on a winter day, so some snow covered the cuckoo. You find the restaurant in a building with a 17th-century façade in the 1st district of Vienna.
Escalator in Vienna
This notice made me smile. The German text of the notice: ‘Diese Fahrtreppe musste aus Sicherheitsgründen außer Betrieb genommen werden’. Literally translated it says: ‘This escalator has been disabled for reasons of safety’.
