My first attempt working with clay

An ateliere named Waldwerkstatt in Zell am See, Austria

While staying at Landhotel Martha I took a lesson in working with clay. The lesson took place in a former farmer’s house called Waldwerkstatt. Well, what should I create? A pot? A plate? A heart? A locomotive … That’s it!

Scetch of a steam locomotive

The big plus of Martha and her Waldwerkstatt: One can really try a lot. She and her assistant Jakob are willing to help one’s dream of clay come true. After putting down what one would like to create of course. So lets draw a locomotive.

Body of the steam locomotive made of clay

Whereas Martha told me about different kinds of clay and different methods of forming bodies her assistant Jakob helped me to make all these parts depicted above. In the beginning, I was just a careful ‘listener’ and ‘watcher’ but after some time I started to lend my hand.

Fine tuning at the steam locomotive

And finally one could watch me to fine tune all these tiny details of the steam locomotive. Be aware such a workshop is addictive.

So this is my first attempt to do anything creative with clay. Thanks to Martha and Jakob for your help to make my idea true. By the way this is not only a locomotive but also a lamp for a tea candle. Just saying.
