In 2006, there was a need for a new crucifix inside the St. Servatius Collegiate Church of Quedlinburg Abbey. An artist from Halle, Mr. Thomas Leu, was chosen to create this crucifix made of aluminium.
I like this work for several reasons. The structure reminds me of a cross as well as of the body of Jesus Christ. The hole inside the material reminds me of the risen Christ (he was here, but now he is gone) but also refers to the simplicity of Romanesque architecture, where windows seem to be just holes in the masonry.
