Mirabell Palace (Schloss Mirabell) is known for its marble hall as a wedding location. Besides that, its garden offers a magnificent view of the Hohensalzburg Fortress and surprises with several magical sculptures.
The Lion and the Dwarf Garden
Speaking about the monuments, my favourite is the sculpture of a lion next to the Dwarf Garden. I saw him on a cold winter day, but the lion didn’t care about the temperatures. Instead, the king of the animals preferred to sunbathe its face: The sunbathing Lion.
The Unicorn
Unicorns are animals you hardly see in free nature. Therefore, I was delighted to see a sculpture of those legendary creatures in the Mirabell Gardens. By the way, the Imperial Treasury in Vienna displays a piece meant to be the horn of a unicorn: The Ainkhürn.
The Winged Horse (Pegasus)
The Mirabell Gardens were set during the song “Do-Re-Mi” in the movie The Sound of Music. In the picture above, you see the hindquarters of the Winged Horse (Pegasus) where Maria and the children danced around.
