While cruising the Strela Sound with a snug sailing boat, I took this photo of the St. Nicholas Church (Nikolaikirche) in Stralsund. The church offers not only two different towers but also an astronomical clock.
Astronomical Clock
A worth-seeing attraction of the St. Nicholas Church in Stralsund is its elaborate astronomical clock. The clock dates back to the 14th century and is considered the oldest one of its kind in the Baltic Sea area. You find it behind the high altar.
According to Manfred Schukowski, an expert in this kind of clock, this work from the 14th century is part of the so-called “Baltic Sea clock family”. So there are more of them in several churches around the Baltic Sea.
I found a similar astronomical clock in Rostock the next day.
