Uta of Naumburg at Naumburg Cathedral in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany

This sculpture is one of twelve donor portraits located in the west choir of Naumburg Cathedral. Due to the look of the depicted lady, this work is considered the most beautiful of the twelve. The name of the statue is Uta of Naumburg.

Uta of Naumburg and the Evil Queen

The name of the depicted lady was Uta von Ballenstedt, but today’s literature generally calls the sculpture Uta of Naumburg. Fun detail: It is said that Walt Disney used the look of Uta as inspiration for the Evil Queen in the animated film “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”.

Naumburg Cathedral World Heritage Site

Besides Uta of Naumburg, the monumental church is worth a visit for many other reasons. It forms a station on the tourist route Romanesque Road and is part of the Transromanica network. Since 2018, Naumburg Cathedral has been listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site.
