The Völklingen Ironworks (Völklinger Hütte) is a World Heritage Site and part of the European Route of Industrial Heritage. Today it houses the Ferrodrom, an interactive science centre focusing on the making of iron. I took this photo from a platform of the nearby railway station of Völklingen.
I visited this place attending an exhibition about golden artefacts made by the Incas. The show took place in the former blower hall of the iron works, which was still equipped with old stuff of containers, pipes and valves. Can you imagine the atmosphere of seeing artful gilded masks surrounded by heavy industrial structures?
